Freedom to protest freedom

In reading a recent posting by [livejournal.com profile] madtechie2718 I came across an article in snopes that included several pictures of a protest last February in London. The protest was over the publication of the Danish cartoons that depicted Mohammad. One of the protesters carried the following sign:
Freedom Go To Hell

I'm struck by their message, and how they were using their freedom of self expression (admittedly not as strong in the UK as it is in the US), to condemn that very freedom.

I'm pretty sure that I would be in trouble in a country with sharia law for saying or doing much less offensive thing.

I also recall one Moslem's statement claiming that Christians would be just as upset over a similar depiction of Christ -- obviously unaware of many much worse depictions of Christ that have been in political cartoons, and artwork, for hundreds of years.
