I just had an idea, generated in part by a conversation I had with a dealer briefly at Rock-Con this weekend, that would essentially be a comic crossover between Pluggers and [livejournal.com profile] muskrat_john's Dork Tower.

The caption would read: "A gamer/plugger's d20 doubles as his d10 and half of his percentile dice."

In case you don't understand and want to:

  • Pluggers -- which can be found on the web here -- is a panel a day strip that features characteristics of pluggers, who are animal representations of, usually, more senior rural people.
  • At Rock-Con, I was looking at the dice being sold at one table when I noticed that they now have d10 with all of the face values being two digit number ending in zero: 00, 10, 20, etc. Looking at this I commented that when I started gaming, I had to use 2 d20 -- which were usually marked from 0 to 9 twice, sometimes with a + on half of the faces, and then manually inked to distinguish the values from 1 to 10 and from 11 to 20 -- as my percentile (1-100) dice. Later, manufactures started producing real d10 (having discovered that you can make a die that isn't one of the perfect solids), but they were usually all just marked 0-9 or 1-10 and one had to state which die in a pair was the tens digit and which was the ones -- which did lead to some creative cheating. Oddly enough when I pulled out my newer set of dice, the ones I picked up at GenCon in 2001 and have hardly used since, I noticed that about half of the d10 in the set were marked with two digit numbers.

Should this idea find its way into print in either comic -- though I highly doubt that Pluggers would bother with something that such a small part of the population would appreciate -- I'll be happy. I don't even need credit.
